Our History

Bank of Edmonson County was established on October 5, 1925. On that day the dreams of five men came to life as the doors of the bank were opened and the people of Edmonson County were given a choice of where they conducted their banking.

The planning of founders Jesse T. Alexander, his brothers Luther F. Alexander and David W. Alexander, George W. Woodcock and N.E. (Ed) Vincent had paid off. Since that day Bank of Edmonson County has grown from a $15,000 entity to an over $200,000,000 enterprise. This has been accomplished by following the plan of its original founders and board of directors as well as the hard work and dedication of the generations that have followed them in leadership roles. Throughout Bank of Edmonson County’s over 85 years in business, the leadership of the bank has cultivated such levels of respect and confidence from their fellow citizens that the founders dream of organizing the “new bank” in Edmonson County has become a prospering reality.

Although a young institution at the beginning of “The Great Depression,” the bank pressed onward and the doors of the bank stayed open throughout the crisis. In 1933, it became a member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Bank of Edmonson County reached the status of a $1,000,000 bank in 1954, and grew another $1,000,000 over the next ten years. By June of 1971, Bank of Edmonson County had moved into its current facility on the south side of Brownsville’s public square. The new building welcomed new levels of success as well, for within six years the bank had reached the $10,000,000 mark in assets. Throughout the remainder of the 1970s and through the 1980s, economic prosperity and rapid growth pushed the bank past $50,000,000 in total assets.

In 1989, Bank of Edmonson County completed its first expansion to the current building, which added five offices to one wing of the bank. As the successful decade of the 1990s drew to a close and a new millennium began, the bank had grown from a $54,000,000 bank in 1990 to a $124,000,000 operation. As before, with growth came the realization that additional space was necessary. In 2001, Bank of Edmonson County finished its second expansion to the current facility. This time, it added eight new offices, a second conference room, handicapped-accessible restrooms on each floor, additional storage space, and an elevator.

In 2003, after much thought, Bank of Edmonson County announced plans to build its very first branch which would be located in Bowling Green. It was a decision that had been carefully studied by the board of directors and management and would prove to be a good fit into the Warren County market. The doors of the branch were opened on October 24, 2004 and it has seen steady growth since the first day of business. Bank of Edmonson County has also offered new, cutting edge technologies to our customers. These services include six convenient ATMs, a 24-hour automated 1-800 number, Internet Banking and Internet Bill Pay. In 2009, the bank completed construction of the new operations center on the northeast corner of the square in Brownsville to accommodate further growth that the new branch in Bowling Green and continued growth in Brownsville had brought about. It is a state of the art building with specific areas that are climate controlled and equipped with special fire monitoring and suppression systems to protect computer servers and other essential technological infrastructure.

In 2015, Bank of Edmonson County opened its second branch on Main Street in Smiths Grove. With the continued market expansion, the Bank expanded the technology suite of products to include mobile banking, remote deposit capture, and digital wallet capabilities.

Although Bank of Edmonson County has seen tremendous growth and plenty of trends come and go in the banking industry since the doors opened in 1925, we remain committed to the principles and values that our founders set forth. Bank of Edmonson County has given customers in our area a choice where they do their banking for over 85 years and we continue to believe that customer service is what sets Bank of Edmonson County apart from competitors throughout the region.

Bill Payment Service

The Bill Payment service permits you to use your Internet-enabled device to direct payments from your designated online Bill Pay Account to third parties you wish to pay. Your Bill Pay Account must be a checking account. Through the Bill Payment service, you can pay bills from your Bill Pay Account to businesses or individuals.

All payments you make will be deducted from the account that you designate as your Bill Pay Account for the Bill Payment service. Any payments you wish to make through this service must be payable in U.S. dollars to a payee located in the continental United States. We reserve the right to restrict types of payees to whom payments may be made using the Service from time to time. You should not use the Bill Payment service to make payments to settle securities purchases, payments to interest bearing accounts, tax payments, or court ordered payments. Payments for these payees will be your sole responsibility if delayed or improperly processed or credited.

Funds must be available in your Bill Pay Account on the scheduled payment date. If the date you schedule a payment to be initiated falls on a non-business day (Saturday, Sunday or holiday), funds must be available in your Bill Pay Account the following business day (e.g., Monday). After funds are withdrawn from your Bill Pay Account to make a payment, we may make the payment either by transferring funds electronically to the payee or by mailing the payee a check.

You may choose to schedule payments to recur in the same amount at regular weekly, monthly or semi-monthly intervals. When you create a new payee in the Bill Payment service, it has a temporary status until we have had sufficient time to set up the account, and for your business payees, verify information about your account. You should schedule a payment to a new payee at least ten (10) business days before any payment due date, to allow us time to set up the payee and verify information about your account with the payee.

For all subsequent payments, you agree to allow at least five (5) business days between the date you schedule a payment to be initiated and the payment due date (that is, the due date shown on your invoice or provided in your agreement with the payee, not taking into account any applicable grace period). If you do not, you will be fully responsible for all late fees, finance charges or other action taken by the payee. If you schedule your payment and follow all instructions provided, but the payment is not received by the payee in a timely manner, Bank of Edmonson County will work with the payee on your behalf to attempt to have any late fees or charges reversed.

Bank of Edmonson County is only responsible for exercising ordinary care in processing and sending payments upon your authorization in accordance with this Agreement. Bank of Edmonson County will not be liable in any way for damages you incur if you do not have sufficient funds in your Bill Pay Account to make the payment on the processing date, for delays in mail delivery, for changes to the payee’s address or account number unless you have advised us of the change sufficiently in advance, for the failure of any payee to correctly account for or credit the payment in a timely manner, or for any other circumstances beyond the control of Bank of Edmonson County.

If the session during which you schedule a payment or transfer ends by 3:00 p.m. Central Time, Bank of Edmonson County will be considered to have received it on that day. Otherwise, it will be considered received on the following business day. For all entries made using the service, the time recorded by the Online Banking service controls.

If your Bill Pay Account does not have sufficient funds to make a payment as of the date the transfer or payment is attempted or scheduled to be made, the transfer or payment will be canceled and no further attempt will be made by Bank of Edmonson County to make the transfer or payment. Bank of Edmonson County will attempt to notify you by e-mail or U.S. Postal Mail, but Bank of Edmonson County shall have no obligation or liability if it does not complete a transfer or payment because there are insufficient funds in your account to process a transaction. In all cases, you are responsible for either making alternate arrangements for the payment or rescheduling the payment through the Service. In the case of fixed payments, only the payment currently scheduled will be canceled. Fixed payments scheduled for future dates will not be affected.

The way to cancel or change a payment is to use the Service. Payments must be changed or canceled using the Service prior to 3:00 p.m. on the business day the transaction is scheduled to be initiated. If you ask us to cancel a payment after it is issued and we agree to do so, we may charge you a stop payment fee.
